myworldabroad

MyWorldAbroad (MWA) is a resource dedicated to helping students and professionals go abroad to enhance their education, career and overall experiences. Originally a print book, the site's content was reorganized and structured for a digital web medium, allowing for easier access to the wealth of advice and content.

MWA had a website prior to this iteration, however it was getting dated, hard-to-use, and not representative of all the exciting and useful content the original book had. Instead of doing a redesign of the old site, this iteration started from scratch again, looking at how the book was structured, and presenting content to a more tech-savvy audience.

Since the original book was very text-heavy, a strong emphasis on visuals and the theme of "travel" was implemented throughout the design. Images famous locations around the world were used as background images in different sections to showcase the idea of going abroad.
In addition, sections of the book were organized into new presentations. The What Do You Want To Do section gathered content related to 10 common and different objectives students may have when going overseas - providing an easy entry point into the site.

The 4 Big Things are sections of the book that defined all the wisdom a student needed to know to go abroad and be successful in their endeavour.
Being quite dense with information, the client wanted to give readers options on how to get into the content with a Jump to Content intro page, as well as provide faster access to those already in the midst of content.
To generate registrations, a paywall was added to encourage students to register to read full articles, while still allowing for full site exploration.

Stories From Abroad was an idea the client had to highlight individual student experiences from overseas. Knowing that students would have like-minded goals, an archive of specific overseas-experiences was created and presented in a categorized yet playful way.
Questions were asked of students and their various answers were provided in quote form with a "Generate another quote" button that dynamically pulled a new quote.

The MyWorldBlog serves as a news and updates platform as well as a marketing tool by allowing the client to upload article snippets related to going abroad.
Being a major entry point into the site, a brighter and more visually impactful design was implemented with a collage of travel-related photos at the header, and scenic mountain in Peru as the background.
